CPR - the Gift of Life That Everyone Can Give to Anyone • 08.22.08

We all possess the gift of life. If we act quickly and realize just how easy it is to save someone’s life when they fall victim to circumstances we can be someone’s angel of mercy, as we save their life! The breath of life can come from your hands just as easily as from the old resuscitation method of mouth to mouth.
When you witness an event such as someone getting into a car accident or possibly someone falling from a moderately high wall and you notice their unconscious there is only so much time that you can act to help save their life. The old way to do CPR worked but many people were having a problem giving mouth to mouth resuscitation to a perfect stranger. This isn’t always due to the idea of touching someone else’s lips but because of the range of diseases circulating that you can get simply by touching someone or getting their saliva in your mouth.
The American Heart Association has created a new and reliable format called Hands on CPR. With this new format there is no need to do mouth to mouth resuscitation, unless the victim has drowned or is suffering from a drug overdose. This is partially due to the fact that the new hands on method is based on the resident oxygen still circulating in ones lungs that won’t be there if someone has water or bodily fluids in their lungs. The old format would be required to remove the obstruction from their lungs as the water or bodily fluids would obstruct the function of the lungs until it is removed and air is required to generate the force to push it out.
The beauty of the new hands on CPR is that it is incredibly easy to learn and any bystander can do it with very little coaching. For example if several people were unconscious and not breathing and you were the only one trained in CPR you could easily give instructions to any bystander to initiate the hands on CPR to save multiple lives at once, or if you yourself are injured and cannot perform the CPR on someone else you can instruct a bystander and still save someone’s life. They will not be so reluctant to do this as there is no need to touch the victims lips.
With this new hands on CPR training the American Heart Association predicts that their will be a wide spread penetration of training as this method is very easy to learn and non invasive to do. The old method should still be taught to assure that drowning and drug overdose victims lives can be saved as well but in many cases where this is not the problem their have been too many deaths due to people being leery of touching the victim’s lips. With this new method more people will be sure to naturally want to help the victim without reservation.
